Hey, i just came across these 2 songs which are adapted from A rose for emily..The first one is "A rose for emily" by the Zombies and the the second one is "To the end" by My Chemical Romance..Just thought I had let you guys know..
I really liked "To the end" since I first heard it a couple of years ago, it never occurred to me that it would be written for this story. I had always wondered why a guy "who's always looking at men" would want to be in the kind of relationship the lyrics described. After reading "A Rose for Emily" I begin to understand. I really hope we discuss these songs in class!! I think my past as a fan of the song may be clouding my ability to analyze it though, I'd really like to hear from you guys, especially if you happen to hate the song/ lyrics.
It never occurred to me that "To The End" could be connected to one of Faulkner's stories. But then again, I've never really been a big fan of MCR...
Nonetheless, I do see the connections between the MCR song and the story. The line "He calls the mansion not a house but a tomb" and cyanide/arsenic seem to be direct references to Homer. I tried to find an article online confirming that MCR based their song off of "A Rose For Emily" but have been unable to find one. Nonetheless, it is interesting to know that MCR may have actually read Faulkner stories. :P
